Introducing Nadia

Nadia Burns My name is Nadia Burns. I am a rising junior at The University of Texas at Austin, and I study public relations in the Moody College of Communication. In school, I am involved in the student government of the Moody College, along with serving as the assistant philanthropy chair in my sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha. In my free time, I love going to the gym, socializing and working on graphic design projects.

I decided to apply for an internship with The National Diversity Council (NDC) because as a woman and a person of color, diversity has meant a lot to me throughout my life. To me, diversity is building community while accepting people for who they are. Another reason I wanted to apply to the NDC internship was because it would provide me with the tools to make a positive impact on this country. As a nonprofit organization, the NDC’s main mission is to help and advocate for other people that are often marginalized. It is rewarding to know that through this internship, I am contributing to building diversity within communities and workplaces so that people can walk confidently, knowing that they belong.

As a public relations major, I am looking forward to writing press releases, honing my social media skills and learning new software. I do not hold any previous internship experience, so I am excited to be able to dive into the professional world. Because public relations is such a diverse field, this communications internship will provide me with the tools to learn social media management, media relations and membership development. As I progress through this internship, I am confident that I will build a solid portfolio of work and gain the experience I need to thrive in my future public relations career.
