Introduction Estela Suarez-Hernandez

Estela Suarez-HernandezHello there good people!

My name is Estela Suarez and I am a rising Junior at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. I am a Communication and Journalism double major on the Public Relations track. In addition to my academics I am also greatly involved in organizations around campus. I am currently serving as the VP of Facility Operations for my sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, I am the Social Media Director of the HerCampus chapter at UMass Amherst, I will be a Peer Advisor in the Communications department starting this Fall, and I have an on-campus job doing social media for an organization. In my free time I really enjoy working out or hanging out with some friends.

I decided to apply for this internship with the National Diversity Council (NDC) because as a latina, diversity and inclusion is something I have always been passionate about. Diversity is not only about expanding a community, but about understanding and acknowledging the individual experiences of each person within the community. Being a part of NDC, an organization that supports and advocates for marginalized groups, seems more important now more than ever due to all the social justice movements we are seeing surrounding minority groups. I am excited to not only further my knowledge and understanding professionally, but also to contribute as much as I can to this organization.

As a Communications and Journalism double major, I am looking forward to learning more about social media analytics, practicing how to write press releases, and touching on marketing and advertising. Because Communications is such a diverse field, I am so excited to get a glimpse into every aspect of it. I look forward to gaining experience, building professional relationships, and honing my skills through hard work and dedication.
