National Diversity Council Board of Directors Announces Nationwide Leadership Search

Houston, TX – Over the course of two decades, the National Diversity Council (NDC) has advocated for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in workplaces and communities, developing current and innovative programs and initiatives that organizations can follow. As the NDC evolves in the DEI space, the organization welcomes change to advance its vision and mission through new and transformative leadership that will guide the organization in a new decade.

“We look forward to continuing the important work of creating inclusive environments where individuals are valued for their talents and empowered to reach their fullest potential,” said NDC board member, Nathaniel Bennett. “We are excited to begin the process of finding highly qualified and dynamic individuals to lead our organization and help us champion DEI across the country.”

Following the departures of Chair Dennis Kennedy, Chief Executive Officer Ángeles Valenciano, and Chief Financial Officer Jason DeGroot, the national Board of Directors has appointed Sofia Anthony, Senior Vice President of Business Operations, Training & Development to take over as interim-CEO while the board conducts a nationwide search and interview process. Anthony has been with the NDC for more than 11 years, developing and growing the nationwide staff team, regional council markets, and most recently, spearheading the launch of the Coalition for Racial Justice & Equity (CRJE).

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as interim-CEO during this time and continue working with fellow team members to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in our local workplaces and communities,” said Anthony. “The National Diversity Council is committed to having a long-term impact so that everyone can live and work in more equitable and inclusive spaces. I am confident that the Council will continue to grow and expand thanks to the business leaders, community members, and team who are dedicated to the significance of our work.”

The board will be leading the national search and interview process guided by a top recruitment firm.
